Edit Media in Adobe Premiere (Flex Xtend)
Use Case Overview
The Flex Xtend panel aids in the search and retrieval of media to be used in a project. Rather than relying on file system directory structures, video editors search for content via business rule-driven metadata using the MAM interface directly in Premiere.
Flex Xtend also orchestrates the process of rendering a timeline to a new media file and importing it into Flex as a new asset.
Flex Xtend also provides the ability for “local” media to be imported into Flex. This refers to any file which was imported into the project bin not via Flex Xtend (i.e., user imports the media using Adobe Premiere’s File menu). This is not required for rendering a timeline but is helpful as source material for any asset will be available for future use.
Flex Xtend supports saving an Adobe Premiere Project in Flex and then re-opening it later, on the same or other workstation. However, the paths to the media referenced by the project are not examined by Flex, and when opening the project on another workstation it is likely that the files will be “offline” and require manual relinking. Because of this, the project saving feature does not have a lot of value, and Pre-Sales should consider whether to include this in the scope for a customer.
Note: Dalet uses Adobe Premiere 2026/x as part of the relevant day-to-day development tasks. There is currently no known limitation to using it with xTend, however Dalet does not have a special validation process for Flex xTend and Adobe Premiere.
SoW Requirements
- The customer must provide access for Dalet Professional Services to the workstation to be configured. If such access is not permitted, a screenshare session will be set up for Dalet PS to guide the customer in the configuration.
- The customer must provide the license(s) for Adobe products. Dalet does not provide licenses for any non-Dalet product.
- All media must have been imported into Flex as an asset and is “online” at the time of user activity for it to be discoverable via Flex Xtend and for Flex Xtend to be able to import the file(s) into the Adobe Premiere project bin.
- The customer must agree to allowing media files being downloaded from Cloud storage locations to either a local workstation or a local shared storage location (i.e., on-prem SAN/NAS), due to Adobe Premiere not being able to read media from Cloud.
- The customer must agree to only use MP4 for proxy editing, as Adobe Premiere does not support HLS or DASH.
Suggested PS Estimates
| Item | Description | Number of Days |
| Configure Flex Xtend Panel on Single Workstation | Install the ZXP and enter all relevant configuration details (i.e., storage locations, import workflow, etc.). | 1 per workstation |
| Configure Rendered Media Import Workflow | Create a basic workflow which imports a newly rendered media file. The workflow only creates an asset record and creates a proxy (and keyframes, waveform, etc.). Additional workflow requirements will require additional days than specified for this item. | 1 |
| Configure Local Media Import Workflow | Create a basic workflow which imports a media file from the Premiere project bin. The workflow only creates an asset record and creates a proxy (and keyframes, waveform, etc.). Additional workflow requirements will require additional days than specified for this item. | 1 |
