Dalet Flex 2025.5.0 Release Notes

Dalet is excited to present the release of Dalet Flex 2025.5.0. 

This release of Dalet Flex provides the new features, quality and security enhancements, bug fixes, and other changes listed below. 

Dalet Flex

New Features

Improvements in the Dalet Flex Packaged Solution

As part of the ongoing initiative to productize Dalet Flex to speed up deployment and simplify on-boarding, these improvements have been made:

Additional workflows are delivered in the Package Solution:

• Ingest caption via wizard
• Watermarking video/images based on Profiles
• Import Adobe project and edit with genealogy metadata
• Adobe Premiere Media checkin via XTEND
• Share assets
• Integration with Amberfin
• Cortex transcript and caption 

Folder Resource configuration supports expressions – no longer need to select an existing Folder Resource instead using an expression, the resolution of the Folder Resource is done on first access and not on configuration.

Support capturing live stream recording from 3rd party systems such as Vantage and Lightspeed

The Flex Solution Packages are installed automatically on all deployments of Dalet Flex from 2025.4.0. Support for skipping specific bundles has been introduced via OPS scripts. A new variable, flex_solution_packages_registration_variables, can be added to control which bundles are skipped during deployment. This variable allows you to specify a JSON object containing the bundles to exclude. In case of configuration deployment conflicts, the installation does not deploy these configurations.

Update Remove ACL plugin 

In this version, updates have been made to the Remove ACL plugin. To make it easier to remove all ACLs on assets, the option, Remove All ACL, has been added to the Remove ACL plugin in the Permission Action Type. If this option is selected, all ACLs for given object(s) are removed and the action ignores individual Groups/Users in the configuration.

The mechanism of all Remove ACL actions has been made idempotent, so that jobs will complete even if they are applied to assets that do not have an ACL or if the Group/User in the action is not valid and an appropriate warning will be displayed in the Job History. Remove ACL jobs will only fail if the Role of the user running the job does not have Manage ACL permissions for the given asset type.

Lookup search for saved searches

Only the first 25 Saved Searches are displayed in FlexMAM in the left-hand navigation panel. To allow you to find saved searches easily, a lookup field has been added in My Searches.   

Flex locking Rest API

From this version of Dalet Flex, a Rest API endpoint api/assets/<assetid>/editLock to support asset locking for assets imported for editing in Adobe Premiere through FlexXtend has been created. The model supports:

• Creating an edit lock
• Retrieving edit lock details for an asset
• Retrieving edit lock details by edit lock id
• Updating edit lock details by edit lock id
• Deleting edit lock details by edit lock id

NOTE: This new edit lock functionality is separate from any existing locking mechanisms in Dalet Flex and this API will currently be accessed by FlexXtend. To use this API, users require regular permissions for the assets being locked. See Flex Project Locking below for more information.

Sharing Flex assets with external users

In preparation for extending the ability to share Flex assets with external reviewers and stakeholders, changes have been made in Flex CORE UI and API to support Third-Party Access. These changes will be functional from Dalet Flex 2025.6.0 (LTS).

Additional language added

To improve user experience and accessibility, Portuguese has been added as a official language to the FlexMAM GUI. Improvements have been made in the Italian, Spanish, German, Hebrew and Arabic translations already implemented.

Redesign of Create menu in FlexMAM 

The create menu in FlexMAM  has been redesigned and the objects you can create are displayed in a drop-down list. FlexMOVE has been removed from the list.

Video Playout and File Monitoring with Brio FTP Server

Video playout on Dalet Brio and file monitoring on the playout server has been e2e validated using Brio FTP Server. Any customers (including those using Flex 2025.4.0) using this feature should upgrade to the latest version of FlexStreamProcessor.

Improve scripting lock management and script lock release

Previously, JEF Script could release Script locks when the script threw an exception and terminated failing the job.  JEF Script locks are now also released when the Job Execution (Job Async Executor service) goes down unexpectedly. This allows other JEF Scripts waiting for the Script lock to acquire it once the original script lock owner has failed, regardless of the reason for the failure.

FlexXtend 

New Features

The following updates have been made to FlexXtend to improve functionality and user experience. In particular, it is now possible to work with MpegDash files in Adobe Premiere, to create and save .prproj projects containing MpgeDash files in proxy mode and to perform an end-to-end workflow for Adobe Premiere projects in Dalet Flex using FlexXtend.

Support MpegDash files via FlexXtend

Adobe Premiere does not natively support importing MpegDash files. From Dalet Flex 2024.5.0 FlexXtend uses daletPremiereImporter to import non-growing MPD files on any storage directly to the Timeline and MediaBin so you can work with the files in Adobe Premiere.

PREREQUISITE: daletPremiereImporter must be installed and running to work with MpegDash proxy files in Adobe Premiere.

End-to-end workflow for Adobe Premiere projects in Dalet Flex using FlexXtend

From this release there is end-to-end support for creating/saving/modifying Adobe Premier projects in Dalet Flex using FlexXtend. You can:

• Create new projects in Adobe Premiere, using media imported from Dalet Flex or local media and save them as .prproj Project assets in Dalet Flex – Save As
• Import existing projects from Dalet Flex directly into a new Media Bin in Adobe Premiere
• Import existing projects from Dalet Flex, modify them in Adobe Premier and save the changes back to the original project in Dalet Flex – Save

Changes in the GUI and Settings panel

The FlexXtend panel has been updated, and the Save Project tab has been renamed Save As and a new Save tab has been added.

The configurations in the Project check-in section in the Xtend Settings dialog have changed to support the new Save/Save As project workflows.

The Workflow Definition ID field has been renamed to Save as Workflow Definition Id and the Save Workflow Definition Id field has been added.

Configuration Prerequisites

In the Save as Workflow Definition ID field add the id of a workflow that the Flex Panel launches after importing the new .prproj to Dalet Flex. You can use an existing workflow that has been configured previously. This workflow id is optional. If no ID is provided the new project is imported using the configured Import Action ID and no workflow will be performed on the imported asset.

To enable the Save workflow, you MUST configure an additiona workflow, in Dalet Flex to overwrite the existing project asset. This workflow must include a node that uses an Import Project action plugin, for example:

The system retrieves the asset id of the project to overwrite when you click on the Save tab and applies the import action on this asset and updates the .prproj file.

In the Xtend Settings dialog, in the Project Check-in section, add the workflow definition id of the workflow in the Save Workflow Definition ID field.

After saving the changes back to Dalet Flex, the name of the .prproj file is updated and stored in the Current Filename field, the Original Filename and the project asset id remain unchanged.

NOTE: The Save Workflow Definition ID is mandatory. If no ID is added to the Save Workflow Definition ID field the Save tab is not displayed in the FlexXtend panel.

If you select the Save tab for a project that is not an asset in Dalet Flex, the Save option is disabled.

Additional improvements and notes

MpegDash proxy media can now be used in a .prproject.

Saving a project on Adobe Premiere running on Windows and importing to MAC OS and vice versa is supported.

Auto Check-in local files when rendering media or working with projects

Projects in Adobe Premier may contain “local” media that has not yet been imported into Dalet Flex. From Dalet Flex 2025.5.0, you no longer need to manually Check-in local media to Dalet Flex before you Save/Render a project in the tImeline. From this version, Flex Xtend automatically checks in all local media in a project. 

Create a project in Adobe Premiere using “local” media, click on the Export/Save As/Save tab. In the tab, a list of all local media in the project is displayed.

Select the AME to use and then select Render or click Save As/Save; the local media is uploded and then the project is rendered/saved.

Flex Project Locking

From this version of Dalet Flex/FlexXtend, you can lock the projects you are working on in Adobe Premiere through FlexXtend to prevent modifications by other users while a project is already being edited.

The locking behavior allows you to:

• Lock a project to prevent others from modifying it
• Modify and save a project you have locked
• Unlock a project manually by selecting Close Project
• Receive a notification if an administrator has removed the lock on your project

The locking behavior allows other users to:

• Open the project in Read-only mode and use Save As to create a new project instead of overwriting the locked project
• Receive a notification when a project they are looking at in Read-only mode is unlocked

Implementation Details

An option to Support Project Locking has been added to the FlexXtend settings dialog.

The Flex Locking Rest API has been developed to support the locking mechanism.

Disable environment selection prompt

To streamline the login process to FlexXtend, you can disable the environment selection prompt, so that you always login to the same environment. A checkbox has been added to select a default environment to work in whenever you log in to Flex Xtend.

Select the environment you want to work in and then select the Always Use This Environment check box; no promt to choose an environment will be shown on subsequent logins.

To redisplay the prompt, in the Settings View section of the Xtend Settings dialog unselect the Always Use This Environment check box and the prompt is displayed on the next login.

Working with FlexXtend in offline mode

From this version of Dlet Flex, you can work on MpegDash files downloaded to your Media Bin in Adobe Premiere through FlexXtend when you are not connected to the network. 

PREREQUISITES: 

• You must be working in Proxy Mode.
• Oreo must be installed on the local computer. When you login to FlexXtend, this notification that Oreo is running is displayed.

When you are connected to the network, FlexXtend runs in Online mode and MpegDash files are downloaded as chunks to the Media Bin in Adobe Premiere using daletPremiereImporter.

If you know that you are going to be disconnected from the network, you can click on the button to move from Online Mode to Local Mode.

In Local Mode, Oreo downloads the complete file to the local storage and once you disconnect from the network you can continue working on your project.

You can render your work locally and once you reconnect to the network you can check your file into Flex via FlexXtend.

This functionality is only available for MpegDash proxy files.

Disable the Settings option in the user profile

To prevent users being able to change the settings in the FlexXtend panel, the "showSettingsButton" flag has been added to the flexXtendAdobePanelSettings.json configuration file.

Edit the file manually to change the setting.

Known Limitations

Best Practice for Naming Files

To prevent issues when playing files, special characters in file names are encoded. Please note the following recommendations regarding the use of special characters in file names.

To allow the use of last accessed timestamp for files in specific hotfolders, the last accessed timestamp will ONLY be used if the following three conditions are met:
  - The new flex/flex-hotfolder-service/lastAccessedTimestampUseEnabled KV is present and set to true (defaults to false).
  - The hotfolder resource to which the item belongs has the new Use Last Accessed Timestamp For Expiry option enabled (an option has been added to hotfolder configuration).
  - The file is in a FILE storage resource.
  If there is no populated value for last accessed, last modified will be used instead.
  NOTE: This option should only be used after consultation with R&D to handle specific error scenarios when copying files to a mount point on a Windows server.
• Add support for REDCODE Codec and Profiles in Technical Metadata.
• Fix flex-arangodb-metadata-checker error related to transaction and constraint: aborting transaction because maximal transaction size limit of 134217728 bytes is reached.
• Get all metadata annotation API should dynamically create the annotation mapping if this information is missing in the Arango collection metadata_entity_mapping_annotations.
• Flex Core APIs: List Users API to allow specification of more than one userType in a single query, for example /api/users;userType=Third-Party;userType=Flex.
• Export Edit plugin modified so that it does not create a large number of subfolders when exporting an Edit Asset when using the Export Referenced Source Assets setting. The Spanned Media file is exported inside a single sub directory in a specified target location.
• Edit Export plugin should use AFFParser.compositionEditRate to generate EDL for Flex Edit Asset (aff) export. Update the description of the frameRate field used in the Edit Export plugin action configuration to reflect this change.
• JAE: Add support for RW2 and ORF image sequences to the Import Image Sequence Plugin. RW2/ORF can be imported as an imagesequence asset using import image sequence plugin. RW2/ORF can be imported as image asset using asset import action. Create proxy is not supported for RW2/ORF.
• Add workflowId to the Executor and JobExecutionRequest so that when the workflow runs, the workflowId can be used in the JEF script execution code. The workflowId will be available both as a variable (workflowId) in the Script context and as a WorkflowContext variable (workflowId).
• Change tag typeahead matching behaviour (as used for suggestions) to match the start of any word in the tag, not just the start of the tag.
• Add a flag to expand the Shaka player configuration to set when the LIVE button is red: Additional property name: liveFragmentsTargetDuration: number added to the Consul KV: flex/flex-fmp-app/shakaConfiguration. The number indicates the time from the edge.
• Enable backup job of ArangoDB databases.
• Create mechanism to auto-retry a job that fails with a 503 error if file does not exist. Deals with an issue where a Move action does not immediately update vfs location so job fails but suceeds on retry.
• Add FFV1 Flex support to pair with FSP. FFV1 codec information is displayed in FlexMAM and FlexCORE Technical Metadata information and FFVI codec and codeTag is retrieved through REST API.
• Add externalId: <flexJobId> to JSON request to FFP to improve the logging details in Kibana for job processing in FFP.

• Action permission; Plugin add ACL: Fixed an issue where the plugin does not have the configuration fields to specify the ACL mode (READ/MODIFY).
• Workflow Designer: Fixed an issue where it was not possible to drag existing transitions between new components.
• [Core UI] Fixed an issue where tracking User activities through Activity Tab does not work.
• [Flex Panel APP] Do not allow enabling an external wizard in Flex CORE if the external URL field is blank. 
• [FSP] Fixed an issue where proxy generation of images with rotation distorts images in FlexMAM.
• Fixed an issue where the switch workspace warning message in FlexCORE was displayed with no text inside it.
• Fixed an issue where it was not possible to reimport and replace an asset high res when the asset is published and is in an active Pyramid media bin. Issue resolved by updating the run rule to allow reimport on assets marked as Published. 
• [workflow instance] Fixed an issue where a workflow graph shows a Join node in progress (light blue) even though the workflow has completed successfully.

• To improve the mapping of codecs when extracting technical metadata when there is no matching Enum value identified for the codec in JAE, codec and format values will be stored as a free string instead of Enum, for example Mpeg2 files are now mapped as codec=Mpeg2 and MPEG4 codec retrieved from FSP is mapped by JAE to MPEG-4 Video codec format. Search in FlexMAM and in Flex CORE works on a list of codec and formats. Unmapped codec/formats are recognized as Unknown.
• Fixed an issue where Mark Out was not being set properly due to a seeking time race condition.

Update REST API to remove the children from the UserDefinedObject API class and remove all references to skipSubChildren field.
• FMP Uploader: Fixed different issues in FlexMOVE so behavior is as expected and error messages are useful.
• Fixed an issue where Thesaurus value suggestions were not populating in FlexMAM for text and string variables.
• Asset Manage: Fixed an issue where it was not possible to navigate to a collection folder from Relationship > Membership tab of an asset.
• Standardize language property during technical metadata extraction of TTML assets. For TTML and WebTTML subtitles, the extracted language code is transformed to full language name for a given list of languages. If no language code/language name matching values on the list is found  the extracted language is used. 
• Fixed an issue where the Asset Summary page displays empty after exiting Bulk Edit until refreshing the page.
• Bulk Metadata API: Fixed issues with multi-option variables in bulk metadata editing.

• Fixed an issue where the Type column filter in the package listing gives 400 bad request error.
• Fixed an issue where FastObject API is not returning Statusflow Name, DisplayName, and Description for Asset and Statusflow Endpoints.
• Fixed an issue where the user was not able to filter events related to statusflow using event search filter option.
• Flex-Metadata-Service: Fixed an issue where assets and their corresponding annotations are not validated during the bulk annotations update operation. Asset annotations with incorrect mappings will not be processed and an informative error message for those annotations is returned.
• Flex-Metadata-Service: Proper message display in exception returned during the bulk annotations update operation. 
• [Metadata Designer] Fixed an issue so that this error is returned from the server when an error is thrown in Metadata Designer: An error happen please contact administrator.
• Fixed an issue where the Bulk edit metadata window does not open selecting Bulk Edit Metadata from the three dot More options listing.

Enhancements FlexXtend

• FlexXtend: Support rendering DLT HR using remote Adobe Media Encoder. Push DLT data to the remote AME machine, so it will write them on the expected location c:\ProgramData\Dalet\Data\xtend before loading the prproj that needs to be rendered. 
• Remote Adobe MediaEncoder not accessible (URL not valid does not prevent saving settings. 

Fixed Issues FlexXtend

• [Xtend Flex] Fixed an issue where send to remote AME will fail if edit has accented characters in name.
• Fixed an issue where special reserved characters (Windows) in sequence name was causing render on remote AME to fail.
• Fixed an issue where saving a sequence with reserved characters (Windows) in the name to Flex through FlexXtend was failing.
