Ingesting Assets
You can ingest assets into the system using the Web Uploader or via a hot folder. To learn about the how to set up and use the FlexMOVE Web Uploader, please consult the FlexMOVE section.
Creation Context
When an asset is created it is assigned a "creation context". The creation context is a property that indicates how an asset was originally created and how it relates to its parent. Examples of creation contexts are:
- Copy: An asset that has been created by copying an existing asset.
- Group: Created as part of a group.
- Import: Asset that was created by importing a file (source file).
- Ingest: Asset that was created by ingesting a file (source file).
- Proxy: Asset that was created by creating a low-res proxy of an existing hi-res asset.
- Transcode: Asset that was created by creating a transcode of an existing asset.
Some creation contexts imply that a new asset has a parent and will therefore be assigned as a child of that parent.
As an example if an asset is transcoded in Dalet Flex, there will be an output file. This output file will automatically be converted to a new child asset and assigned as a child of the original asset. Hence a transcode creation context implies that this asset will always have a parent. The same applies to copy and proxy. Conversely, an ingest creation context always indicates that this asset is a parent and has no other parents.
Creating Placeholder Assets
You can also create placeholder assets which represent a file, but are not actually associated with a file.
Creating a Placeholder Image Asset
On the toolbar, click New and select Image Asset from the drop down menu.
In the Create new Image Asset... section, complete the following fields:
- Name: enter a name
- Description: enter an optional description
- Variant: select a variant from the drop down menu
In the Metadata Definition field, select a metadata definition and select or populate fields for your chosen metadata schema.
Once you are happy with your settings, click Save to finalise.
Creating a Placeholder Media Asset
There are two ways to create a media asset. You can either create a placeholder asset or ingest a file.
On the toolbar, click New and select Media Asset from the drop down menu.
In the Create new Media Asset... section, complete the following fields:
- Name: enter a name
- Description: enter an optional description
- Variant: select a variant from the drop down menu
From the Metadata Definition drop down menu, select a metadata definition and populate the fields of your metadata schema.
When you have finished specifying the details for your media asset, click Save to finalise.
Creating a Placeholder Text Asset
Text assets, much like media and image assets are object types.
You can define a number of useful variants all based on text assets, such as:
- Subtitle
- Closed Caption
- Script
- EDL
- NLE Project
The text asset supports all standard Dalet Flex object behaviour for objects of this type, such as comments, attachments, and so on.
Text assets are also searchable within the assets section of the Dalet Flex console user interface.
Supported file extensions for upload include:
- Generic document: csv, doc, docx, html, json, pdf, rtf, txt, xls, xlsx, xml
- Edit Decision List specific: edl
- Subtitle specific: dfxp, sami, smi, srt, ssa, stl, sub, ttml, usf, vtt
